As you may have worked out by now, Totem has an open arms policy
on submission and commissioning of new work.
We welcome submissions from authors and artists all over the world,
who are inspired by the idea of building literary, artistic and scholastic bridges
between Africa and the rest of the world.
We are not looking for only Africa oriented material, but for top quality work
that expresses universal ideas and themes.
What we want:
Totem invites poetry, literary novels, fine art monographs educational textbooks, and academic non fiction submissions, and ideas for books, from all over the world.
We are currently accepting Short Story submissions for Totem Magazine,
which we plan to revive by the middle of 2017.
( Totem is not currently publishing biographies and autobiographies. )
How to submit:
1. Use the contact form to send a covering letter, a short biography, synopsis and two sample chapters of your proposed book, or ten images, if submitting an art monograph. Alternatively, send hardcopy submission to the address on the Contact Us page.
2. Poetry collections should be forty poems minimum.
3. Novels should be 60,000 words minimum.
4. Art Monographs should be a minimun of 50 pages long, and 1000 pages maximum.
5. Textbooks must be by qualified tutors only, and may be any length.
6. Academic non-fiction must be a minimum of 50 pages.
